Dear Addams Families,

What a week of celebration for our Jane Addams students!

Here are some of the highlights:

• The 8th grade girls track team and the 7th grade boys track team were crowned champions at the D54 track meet on Monday night. The track team was edged out by Mead but came in a solid 2nd place overall. Many students ran, jumped, threw personal bests at the meet.
• The 7th and 8th grade orchestras put on a memorable show on Tuesday evening. Congratulations to director Mrs. Boyle and the students as they showed incredible growth this year.
• The staff and student body were wowed by an amazing Talent Show on Wednesday morning. The talent show participants were able to show their unique gifts in such different ways.
• The entire building took part in a meaningful and successful Cancer Walk on Wednesday. Each Inspire made their own “box car” to raise the level of engagement and fun. Student donations are still being tallied and the funds will be sent to Lurie Children’s Hospital to continue the fight for a cure.
• Today, we will be holding our last 3A’s Assembly for the school year. We look forward to celebrating students and staff that have embodied the 3A’s of Accept, Achieve, Amaze while raffling off some prizes including and not limited to water ballooning Mr. Bingen! It should be a wet end to the day… for me.

Anything but a Backpack Day
We are extremely happy to announce that our students met our building MAP goal for the school year! To celebrate, we will be hosting an Anything but a Backpack Day this coming Wednesday, May 29. Bring your school supplies for school in anything EXCEPT a backpack on May 29. Pillowcases, suitcases, laundry baskets, Amazon boxes, and more! We can’t wait to see their creativity!

Yearbooks
Extra yearbooks are available for purchase. This is a first come, first serve basis. Only online orders will be accepted at this time. To place an order, follow the instructions below. Yearbook distribution will be Wednesday, May 29, 2024.
 
To place an order, go to www.jostens.com.

• Click on “Find My School/Group”.
• Type “Jane Addams Junior High School, Schaumburg, IL” in the search bar.
• Click on the “Jane Addams Junior High School” crusader icon.
• Click “2024 Yearbook” then “Order My Yearbook”.
• Complete the online order form. Be sure the order goes through and you receive a confirmation number. Please keep your confirmation number!

Pizza still for sale!
Students will still be able to purchase pizza this coming Tuesday and Thursday. In addition, 8th graders can buy pizza at the reduced price of $2 per slice on their last day of school, Friday May 31. 7th graders can do the same on their last day of school, Monday, June 3.

4 PM Buses 
The last day for 4 pm late buses will be Tuesday, May 28. We will NOT run late buses on May 30, 31, June 3.

Donations for 8th grade events
The Addams PTA is asking for your support with donations for end-of-year 8th grade events. Please visit the following form if you are able to support our staff in making the end of year memorable for our students.
  

Physicals for 8th graders

If you think your student will participate in a high school summer sport camp and you will need a copy of their physical, please request it with Nurse Fatema ([email protected] ) by May 30.  

8th grade Graduation
We are excited to announce that this year’s event will be held from 2:30 to 3:30 pm on Sunday, June 2, 2024 at Wintrust Field, also known as the Schaumburg Boomers Stadium. In order to accommodate all families, we will be limiting each family to six tickets. Students will sit on the field with their classmates, while families will sit in the stands. In the event of rain, we will hold our graduation ceremony on Monday, June 3, at 5:30 pm at Hoffman Estates High School. Either way, the last day of school for eighth-grade students will be Friday, May 31. District 211 summer school classes start on June 3 and we want to ensure our eighth-graders can participate in those classes.

Graduation Tickets
Each family will be limited to six tickets (the graduate does not count as one of the tickets). Tickets will be given to students on Friday, May 31 during the graduation practice.
 
Registration for 2024-2025 school  year
Registration for the 2024-25 school year is now available through the Infinite Campus Parent Portal. Please login to review the current information and make any necessary changes. Reminder you can also register your younger children who will be starting kindergarten in August 2024 through your portal account. 
 
If you do not have a portal account, or cannot remember your username or password, please contact [email protected].
 
If you do not intend to return for the 2024-25 school year, please notify our school office and we will coordinate the transfer of records to your new school district. If you have any questions, please contact our office. 

English as a Second Language Summer Club for Adults
 The Department of Language and Culture will be offering English as a Second Language conversation clubs for District 54 parents this summer. Sessions are 1 hour for 4 weeks. The club will allow participants to practice and develop their conversational English skills. Each class has a new weekly focus and participants will engage with one another in a whole group setting as well as in small groups. Those who are interested in attending can choose from one of three available sessions:
  
 June online session
Thursdays, June 6 – 27 from 5-6 p.m.
The group will meet online through Zoom.
 
 June in-person session
Tuesdays, June 4 – 25 from 7-8 p.m.
The group will meet at the District 54 Professional Learning Center (522 E. Schaumburg Road, Schaumburg IL 60194) Enter through Door C1 and go to Room 104.
 
 July online session
Tuesdays, July 2-23 from 7-8 p.m.
The group will meet online through Zoom.

District 54 Virtual Backpack
 District 54 shares information about community events with our students and families through our Virtual Backpack.  We know that parents are interested in extracurricular activities. At the same time, we don’t want the homework, letters from the teachers, school news and other important district information to get lost among the countless other pieces of paper in our students’ backpacks.  Please click here for additional information.
