Dear Addams Community:

We love our students like family, but just like family sometimes a little break from each other actually allows us to appreciate each other even more. As such, I think staff and students alike are excited for spring break! We will all rest up for what is going to be an amazing stretch run to the school year. Before we head out, the staff and students will participate in another thrilling Accept, Achieve, Amaze Assembly. The agenda for the 3A’s Assembly includes:

  • Finals of the annual PE dance-off competition
  • PE, IC and REACH Departments will honor some worthy students and staff members with the coveted 3A award for embodying our 3 tenets of Accept, Achieve and Amaze.
  • Hallway Hero raffle for students that have been given tickets for modeling amazing hallway behavior
  • “Guess How Many” jolly rancher and mints raffle
  • Boys’ volleyball team will take on some staff members in a friendly competition
  • Mr. Musselman, Mr. Pascual, Mr. Lundgren and I will participate in the coveted hard boil or not, Egg Challenge. I am already nervous that I may end up with egg on my face!

This assembly is sure to be another “smash” (pun intended) hit! Thank you to our staff PBIS team for planning the event.

Enjoy the next week with your kids and we look forward to continuing our work with you to support students in achieving their goals this spring.

Regards,

Chris Bingen         Bill Musselman

Save your bottle caps
Our Student Ambassadors are working on a whole school project to help the environment. We are collecting plastic bottle caps. If we receive enough, we will be able to have them repurposed into a bench for the school. Please help us by saving your caps and sending them to school with your child on a regular basis.

Graduation Gowns and Medallions
If you have still not purchased your child’s graduation gown and keepsake medallion, please do so now. Payment for gowns and medallions can be made in one of three ways:

  1. Log on to the school store on the Infinite Campus Parent Portal and purchase the gown/medallion. The cost is $22 (with a $2 processing fee).
  2. Make a check out to Addams Junior High for $22 and drop it off at the Addams office.
  3. Send your student with $22 cash in an envelope with their name on it, labeled “graduation fee”.

Payment is due ASAP.  Please email Mr. Bingen if you are in need of financial assistance.

The District 54 Department of Language and Culture invites District 54 families to join us from 5:00-6:00 PM on Wednesday, April 12 to discuss Activities for the Summer. Through this session, we hope to provide families who are new to the country with information about different activities and resources that are available for students and families in the summer. Spanish and Ukrainian translators will be available. If you are able to attend this session in the District 54 Board Room, 524 E. Schaumburg Road in Schaumburg, please let us know by calling Barbara Velez at (847) 357-5074.

Summer Camp Scholarships Available
As part of its commitment to life-long learning, the Schaumburg Township Council of PTAs (STC) offers scholarships for summer programs/camps to District 54 students currently in Kindergarten through 7th grade who wish to broaden their education, talents and experiences.

**Please note the parent/guardian must be a current PTA member at the school attended by the child applying for the scholarship.**

You are responsible for registering your child for the camp/program indicated. Registration is recommended to ensure your child secures a spot.  If you wait to see if your child is awarded a scholarship before registering, your child runs the risk of the program being full or cancelled. Please make sure you register by May 20th.   This must be a summer camp or program completed by Labor Day.  If your camp/program is cancelled contact us with an eligible alternative within the same organization.

Click these links to access the application: English version,  Spanish version

**The application and supporting documents are due April 7, 2023.**

5Essentials

Once again we are reaching out to our families and asking you to participate in the annual Illinois 5Essentials Survey to provide us with your perspective and help guide our school improvement efforts. The parent survey will be available online through March 31, 2023, at survey.5-essentials.org/Illinois

The survey takes about 10 minutes to complete and is available in English and Spanish. Note: the survey will time out and you will need to start over if you don’t finish in one sitting.

If you have more than one child, you may complete the survey for each child. You will be asked to select your county and then your child’s school. Be aware that there are other “Jane Addams” schools in Illinois so make sure you are picking the one in Schaumburg.

District 54 Virtual Backpack

District 54 shares information about community events with our students and families through our Virtual Backpack.  We know that parents are interested in extracurricular activities. At the same time, we don’t want the homework, letters from the teachers, school news and other important district information to get lost among the countless other pieces of paper in our students’ backpacks.  Please click here for additional information.
