Dear Addams Community:

We are very proud of the effort and grit shown by our students this week as they completed the IAR state assessments. In observing them in action, we are confident that Addams students tried their best and we look forward to sharing positive results with families at a later date. In addition, on Wednesday, the musical cast and crew “teased” us with performances of the first half of Into the Woods Junior. We look forward to them sharing their gifts with our community this Saturday and Sunday. A huge shout out goes to Mrs. Mueller, Ms. Caliendo, Mr. Lundgren and Mrs. Duvall for their fantastic leadership and direction of the many students involved in the musical.

Next, we would like to highlight three of our talented students, Isaac F, Emilia H and Sofia P. These fine artists had work chosen for the D54 Prairie Arts Show at the Schaumburg Prairie Arts Center on Wednesday evening. District 54 remains committed to supporting students in the arts and we are very proud of these three and all the artists at Addams.

As always, do not hesitate to reach out as we work in partnership to support our students in reaching their potential.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Regards,

Chris Bingen         Bill Musselman

Principal               Assistant Principal

Graduation Gowns and Medallions
The 8th grade graduation date will not be finalized by the school district until March. The School Board and administration wait until the threat of inclement weather/snow days are over before settling on a date. However, we have already begun preparations for graduation. We have gathered student sizes for graduation gowns. As part of our ceremony, all students will wear a gown and receive a keepsake medallion. Payment for gowns and medallions can be made in one of three ways:

  1. Log on to the school store on the Infinite Campus Parent Portal and purchase the gown/medallion. The cost is $22 (with a $2 processing fee).
  2. Make a check out to Addams Junior High for $22 and drop it off at the Addams office.
  3. Send your student with $22 cash in an envelope with their name on it, labeled “graduation fee”.

Payment is due ASAP.  Please email Mr. Bingen if you are in need of financial assistance.

Summer Camp Scholarships Available
As part of its commitment to life-long learning, the Schaumburg Township Council of PTAs (STC) offers scholarships for summer programs/camps to District 54 students currently in Kindergarten through 7th grade who wish to broaden their education, talents and experiences.

**Please note the parent/guardian must be a current PTA member at the school attended by the child applying for the scholarship.**

You are responsible for registering your child for the camp/program indicated. Registration is recommended to ensure your child secures a spot.  If you wait to see if your child is awarded a scholarship before registering, your child runs the risk of the program being full or cancelled. Please make sure you register by May 20th.   This must be a summer camp or program completed by Labor Day.  If your camp/program is cancelled contact us with an eligible alternative within the same organization.

Click these links to access the application: English version,  Spanish version

**The application and supporting documents are due April 7, 2023.**

5Essentials

Once again we are reaching out to our families and asking you to participate in the annual Illinois 5Essentials Survey to provide us with your perspective and help guide our school improvement efforts. The parent survey will be available online through March 31, 2023, at survey.5-essentials.org/Illinois

The survey takes about 10 minutes to complete and is available in English and Spanish. Note: the survey will time out and you will need to start over if you don’t finish in one sitting.

If you have more than one child, you may complete the survey for each child. You will be asked to select your county and then your child’s school. Be aware that there are other “Jane Addams” schools in Illinois so make sure you are picking the one in Schaumburg.

District 54 Virtual Backpack

District 54 shares information about community events with our students and families through our Virtual Backpack.  We know that parents are interested in extracurricular activities. At the same time, we don’t want the homework, letters from the teachers, school news and other important district information to get lost among the countless other pieces of paper in our students’ backpacks.  Please click here for additional information.
