April 26, 2024

Dear Addams Families,

We hope you are having an amazing week! Our students at Addams continue to learn and grow each day as the weeks fly by. We wanted to make you aware that this coming week, students will be able to demonstrate their academic growth as they participate in Reading MAP assessments. The assessments will take place during Language Arts class on Tuesday, April 30 – Thursday, May 2. Then students will complete Mathematics MAP assessments the following Monday, May 6 – Wednesday, May 8. Please encourage your child to give their all on these assessments as we look forward to celebrating student growth as a building.

In addition, the Addams PTA is asking for your support with donations for end-of-year 8th grade events. Please visit the following form if you are able to support our staff in making the end of year memorable for our students.

Finally, we would like to announce that our new assistant principal for next school year is Mrs. Tricia Leong. You may know Mrs. Leong as she was a former teacher and assistant principal at Frost Junior High and for the last two years has served as the assistant at Einstein Elementary School. Mrs. Leong will be an asset to the Addams Junior High community.

Thank you for your continued partnership in ensuring success for all Addams students!

Regards,

Chris Bingen          Bill Musselman

2024 Personal Assessment of Core Competency Survey
District 54 is committed to ensuring not only the academic success of each child, but also their social-emotional well-being. Similar to this winter, we are asking for your insight as a parent/guardian in creating the most well rounded picture of your child’s strengths and opportunities for growth. To gather your perspective, District 54 sent families of students in grades 3-8 an email link for each child to the D54 Social Emotional Learning Survey on Monday, April 15.  Thank you in advance for participating in this survey, as we believe the home-school collaboration is critical to best support your child’s overall well-being. The deadline to complete the survey is May 10.

Class of 2024 T-Shirts

Time is running out to order an 8th grade t-shirt!  Use the QR code on the flyer below or visit our Addams Spirit Wear store to place an order for your child. Orders placed will be filled within 2 weeks. We will continue to fulfill and deliver t-shirts to any student that orders all the way until the week before graduation. If you are in need of financial support to receive a t-shirt., please email Mr. Bingen with your child’s size and we would be happy to place an order for you.

8th grade Graduation Gowns and Medallions
8th grade graduation is going to be here before you know it! All graduates will be required to purchase a gown and a keepsake medallion for the ceremony. 8th grade parents, you have the option to pay for the gown and medallion by logging on to the Infinite Campus parent portal and locating the “School Store” tab. The price for both of these items is $25 plus a small processing fee. If you prefer, you can send a check (made out to Jane Addams Junior High School) or $25 cash with your student to the main office. If purchasing the gown/medallion represents a hardship for any family, email Mr. Bingen and the school will be happy to provide financial support.

Save the Date – 8th Grade Dance
We will be holding a dance at Jane Addams Junior High for all interested 8th graders on Friday, May 17 from 5 to 7:30 pm. Tickets will be sold for $5 and sold during lunch periods in coming weeks. The funds will supplement the cost of a professional DJ, photo booth and Culvers for students. If you need financial support for your child to attend, email Mr. Bingen and we will be happy to help. Many students choose to dress up for the event, but they are free to come dressed in whatever way makes them comfortable.

8th grade Graduation
We are excited to announce that this year’s event will be held from 2:30 to 3:30 pm on Sunday, June 2, 2024 at Wintrust Field, also known as the Schaumburg Boomers Stadium. In order to accommodate all families, we will be limiting each family to six tickets. Students will sit on the field with their classmates, while families will sit in the stands. In the event of rain, we will hold our graduation ceremony on Monday, June 3, at 5:30 pm at Hoffman Estates High School. Either way, the last day of school for eighth-grade students will be Friday, May 31. District 211 summer school classes start on June 3 and we want to ensure our eighth-graders can participate in those classes.
