Dear Addams Community,

It was certainly a week of peak moments at Addams Junior High! Here are some of the many highlights:

  • On Monday, one of our parents, Mr. Dudek, turned our LMC into a WWI-WWII museum. Mr. Dudek gave presentations to all 8th grade Social Studies classes featuring artifacts from the wars including uniforms, helmets, supplies and even a bicycle. The students were very engaged in his presentation. Thank you, Mr. Dudek for sharing your passion with us!
  • On Wednesday morning, students had a blast participating in multiple activities. First, all Inspire sections created scarecrow creations to decorate their doors. Each scarecrow was entered into a contest and students were able to vote for best scarecrow the next day. Mr. Musselman was a popular “model” for the scarecrows as he ended up being highlighted in multiple creations. In addition, students played a fun game called Copycat that incorporated the four C’s of collaboration, creativity, communication and critical thinking. Finally, the students took part in an innovation hour where they had choice in activities to complete again based on the 4’Cs.
  • In addition, on Wednesday morning, we held our first pep assemblies of the year (per grade level). The Accept, Achieve and Amaze Assemblies are a chance to celebrate the 3 A’s of Addams. The mathematics department gave out awards to students that have demonstrated the 3A’s in their classes so far. We also honored the cross country teams with a relay race against staff members and the girls’ basketball teams that played knockout against the staff. Next, ASL classes taught us as a group how to sign Accept, Achieve and Amaze. Finally, the Multicultural Club led a staff versus students dance off in honor of Hispanic Heritage month.
  • On Thursday afternoon, Mr. Truppa and the other Addams cross country coaches (Ms. Lucchini, Mr. Belluomini and Ms. Horikawa) brought back the Addams Fall Flite. This is the largest sports competition that occurs in D54. Sixteen teams competed in 8 cross country races. It was a perfect day to run and it appeared that many students ran personal bests.

We are definitely off and running to have a fantastic year at Addams! If you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to reach out to us as we partner with you in the education of our kids.

Regards,
