Reach program Reach program Reach programDear Addams Families,

It was another fantastic week at Addams! As an example our 8th grade Social Studies Department partnered with our REACH Department to host a Abilities Expo. Students given a hands-on opportunity to experience different assistive technology. The pictures are representative of three of the stations that students visited. In addition, our 8th grade band and orchestra students were able to attend a performance of the world famous Chicago Symphony Orchestra in downtown Chicago. It was so great to talk to the students that came back and here how thrilled they were with the experience.

During the upcoming week, we will begin to hold culminating events for many of our performing groups. Here is a list of upcoming events that are open to all parents and students to attend:

  • May 14 – Band Concert @ 7 pm
  • May 15- Choir Concert @ 7 pm
  • May 21 – Orchestra Concert @ 7 pm
  • May 22 – Talent Show @ 6 pm

Thank you for your continued partnership in ensuring success for all Addams students! #AcceptAchieveAmaze

Save the Date – 8th Grade Dance
We will be holding a dance at Jane Addams Junior High for all interested 8th graders on Friday, May 17 from 5 to 7:30 pm. Tickets will be sold for $5 and sold during lunch periods in coming weeks. The funds will supplement the cost of a professional DJ, photo booth and Culvers for students. If you need financial support for your child to attend, email Mr. Bingen and we will be happy to help. Many students choose to dress up for the event, but they are free to come dressed in whatever way makes them comfortable. Students must meet academic and behavioral expectations to participate in this event.

2024 Personal Assessment of Core Competency Survey
District 54 is committed to ensuring not only the academic success of each child, but also their social-emotional well-being. Similar to this winter, we are asking for your insight as a parent/guardian in creating the most well rounded picture of your child’s strengths and opportunities for growth. To gather your perspective, District 54 sent families of students in grades 3-8 an email link for each child to the D54 Social Emotional Learning Survey on Monday, April 15.  Thank you in advance for participating in this survey, as we believe the home-school collaboration is critical to best support your child’s overall well-being. The deadline to complete the survey is May 10.

8th grade Graduation
We are excited to announce that this year’s event will be held from 2:30 to 3:30 pm on Sunday, June 2, 2024 at Wintrust Field, also known as the Schaumburg Boomers Stadium. In order to accommodate all families, we will be limiting each family to six tickets. Students will sit on the field with their classmates, while families will sit in the stands. In the event of rain, we will hold our graduation ceremony on Monday, June 3, at 5:30 pm at Hoffman Estates High School. Either way, the last day of school for eighth-grade students will be Friday, May 31. District 211 summer school classes start on June 3 and we want to ensure our eighth-graders can participate in those classes.

Graduation Tickets
Each family will be limited to six tickets (the graduate does not count as one of the tickets). Tickets will be given to students on Friday, May 31 during the graduation practice.

District 54 Virtual Backpack
District 54 shares information about community events with our students and families through our Virtual Backpack.  We know that parents are interested in extracurricular activities. At the same time, we don’t want the homework, letters from the teachers, school news and other important district information to get lost among the countless other pieces of paper in our students’ backpacks.  Please click here for additional information.
