Dear Addams Families,
Looks like we are going to have a real Chicago winter this year! We hope everyone is surviving the cold and snow. Inside Addams, we are keeping warm and energized through engaging learning activities! We look forward to this afternoon when we will be holding our next 3 A’s Assemblies. This month, the Science, STEM and Spanish teachers will be giving awards to students that embody the character traits of Accept, Achieve and Amaze! It should be another fantastic assembly complete with some pies in faces of staff members, a trike race along with highlighting many clubs and sports! In addition, students will be introduced to the Energy Bus concept this afternoon. Students will “get on the bus” to make a goal in one of the 3 A’s and track their progress over the coming weeks.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns do not hesitate to reach out.
Enjoy the weekend!
Regards,
Chris Bingen Bill Musselman
Principal Assistant Principal

2024- Winter SEL Survey
District 54 is committed to ensuring not only the academic success of each child, but also their social-emotional wellbeing. Your insight as a parent/guardian is essential in creating the most well rounded picture of your student’s strengths and opportunities for growth. To gather your perspective, District 54 will send families of students in grades 3-8 an email link for each child to the District 54 Personal Assessment of Core Competency Survey on Monday, January 8th. The window will close on Friday, January 26th. Thank you in advance for participating in this survey, as we believe the home-school collaboration is critical to best support your child’s overall well-being.
Volunteers Needed for Multicultural Event
Each year, the Department of Language and Culture, along with the Schaumburg Park District, presents a Multicultural Event that showcases the diversity represented by the students of District 54. One of the highlights of the event is the opportunity for students and their families to learn about other cultures by playing games, completing crafts, and participating in other activities. We are looking for families who are interested in volunteering to plan and facilitate an activity that represents their culture at this year’s event on Saturday, March 2, 2024. If you are interested in volunteering, please complete an Activity Volunteer Interest Form by January 26, 2024. We will also be hosting an informational meeting on Monday, January 22nd at 3:45 p.m. at Mead Jr. High.
Coffee and Conversation
You are invited to join us on February 7, 2024 from 5-6 p.m. as District 54’s Multicultural Parent Advisory Council presents a session for parents on “Supporting Your Student’s Learning at Home“. Join us as we discuss how parents can partner with the schools to help their students continue to grow as learners. We will also explore different strategies and resources for navigating homework and the learning process. To sign up for the session, please contact Barbara Velez (847) 357-5074.
Spanish Speech Contest
We are excited to begin preparing for the 12th Annual Spanish Speech Contest on May 2, 2024. This week, we have sent communication about the contest to families and students. In order to further promote the event, we hoped that you would once again be able to invite principals to include a brief blurb about the event in their newsletters, and to feature the Spanish Speech Contest on morning announcements. Here is the District 54 Spanish Speech Contest website. Here is an example of a blurb to include:

District 54 Virtual Backpack
District 54 shares information about community events with our students and families through our Virtual Backpack. We know that parents are interested in extracurricular activities. At the same time, we don’t want the homework, letters from the teachers, school news and other important district information to get lost among the countless other pieces of paper in our students’ backpacks.
