Dear Addams Community:

We hope you had a wonderful week! It was so fun to see the many students that participated in our spirit week to promote National Inclusive Schools Week. My personal favorite is always Sports Day, but the others were awesome, as well!

It should be an exciting upcoming week. Our boys’ basketball and cheerleading teams will take part in the District 54 tournament. The 7th and 8th grade orchestras have a concert this coming Tuesday night, 12/13 and we look forward to welcoming the families of future Crusaders on Wednesday, 12/14.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to reach out to Mr. Musselman or me as we continue our partnership in ensuring your child’s success.

Have a great weekend!

Regards,

Chris Bingen         Bill Musselman

Principal               Assistant Principal

Erin’s Law
Again this year, we will be implementing a child sexual abuse prevention program in our schools as the result of the passage of Public Act 097-1147, also known as Erin’s Law. Lessons and resources have been carefully created and selected and give the students the knowledge and skills necessary to keep themselves safe. The delivery of these lessons will be occurring in health classes next Friday, December 16. More information about the legislation and the lessons is available in the attached letter below. Please do not hesitate to be in contact with me if you have any questions or concerns.

Schaumburg Library D54 Art Showcase
All District 54 Jr. High Schools are represented in this month’s art show at the Schaumburg Library. The show will be up for the entire month of December and can be viewed during normal library business hours.

Eighth Grade / High School Transition

District 211 has updated its comprehensive transition guidebook for the high school graduating class of 2027.  The guidebook highlights important information the families of current 8th grade students will want to know.  Each District 211 high school has a unique version of the Class of 2027 Transition Guidebook.  You can locate electronic copies of each high school’s guidebook on the District 211 webpage devoted to incoming freshmen information.  Please contact your student’s prospective high school for more information about the high school transition.

Girls Volleyball and Wrestling seasons are coming!

Girls volleyball and wrestling seasons begin right after winter break! Any student trying out for volleyball or wishing to take part in wrestling must have an approved sports physical on file with the nurse prior to being able to participate. See the Addams website for all forms needed.

Incoming 6th Grade Parent Night
We are excited for the parents of next year’s 7th graders to learn what it means to Accept, Achieve and Amaze at Addams.  This informational night is a great opportunity to find out some useful tips for a smooth transition into Jane Addams. This event will take place on Wednesday, December 14 from 6:30 pm – 7:30 pm (Dual Language Japanese and Chinese Immersion sessions will occur at 6 pm prior to the large group meeting). Our partnership is important for the success of your child.  We look forward to meeting you and answering any questions you may have about Addams and about the transition to junior high.

District 54 Early Childhood Programs
Did you know that District 54 offers early childhood programs to families living within District 54 boundaries? We also provide special education services to students who are identified as having a disability. For more information or to set-up a screening appointment, call 847-230-1700 or visit our website.

District 54 also offers a Prevention Initiative Home-Visiting Program for families with children ages 0-3 who are screened and found to be eligible. If you or anyone you know is expecting or has a child ages 0-30 months, you can see if you qualify for the home visit program by emailing [email protected]. District 54 Severe Weather Response Plan
In order to help parents better prepare for the severe cold weather and snow we often get during winters in our community, please review the District 54 Severe Weather Response Plan.

District 54 Virtual Backpack

District 54 shares information about community events with our students and families through our Virtual Backpack.  We know that parents are interested in extracurricular activities. At the same time, we don’t want the homework, letters from the teachers, school news and other important district information to get lost among the countless other pieces of paper in our students’ backpacks.  Please click here for additional information.
