Principal’s Message

Dear Addams Families,

Upcoming dates
9/1: No School – Labor Day
9/5: Picture Day
9/17: Half-day – Early Release @ 10:45
9/28: D54 Run to Read

We hope everyone is ready for the three-day weekend! We are really proud of the students for their efforts this week while completing Math MAP testing. If you are headed to September Fest, please cheer on the 8th grade band (Saturday at 11 am) and our 8th grade orchestra (Saturday at 12:30 pm).

In addition, many extracurricular clubs are beginning in the next couple of weeks. Our students are so fortunate to have a wide variety of after school club offerings and we have made it a goal for each student to be involved in at least one club. Students that participate in extracurricular clubs and sports have a higher investment in the school and see greater success both in terms of social/emotional development and academics. Please click the Addams clubs listand discuss the opportunities to ACCEPT, ACHIEVE, or AMAZE.

Do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns as we work together to ensure that our students maximize their learning potential.

Regards,

Bill Musselman
Principal

Picture Day
Addams picture day will be Friday, 9/5. Representatives from Lifetouch will be at Addams on this day to take students’ pictures. Ordering is made easy by visiting this year’s school pictures at mylifetouch.com. Please use the following Picture Day ID: EVT77NJKJ. If your child is absent on picture day, they can make it up on Picture Retake Day, November 7th.

Starting Tuesday, August 26, we will start selling slices of pizza from Old Town Pizza. Slices sell for $3 per slice, cash only. No need to order ahead of time, but students will need to bring cash on pizza days.

School drop off/pick up procedures
Thank you to all of the families who ensured our students arrived safely last week. A community map is attached, and I highlighted the two appropriate areas to drop off students. To ensure student safety, cars are not allowed in the Addams parking lot from 7:20 – 7:40.
  • All big bus riders will enter the building through Doors 1 and 5
  • All small bus riders should enter the building through the cafeteria doors
  • Students who walk or are dropped off from the Atcher and Dartmouth Lane directions should enter the building through door 5 (YELLOW pathway on map)
  • Students who walk or are dropped off from the Norwell and Westover Lanes should enter the building through door 21 after utilizing the crosswalk in our parking lot (BLUE pathway on map)
  • Parking on Norwell Lane in front of Addams is prohibited
  • Dropping students off on Springinsguth Road is strictly prohibited

Intramurals is open for student sign-up!  Intramurals is a “drop-in” basis, meaning students can choose when they want to attend–no commitment is required. A variety of activities will be offered including team sports, net games, large group games, and fitness. Intramurals are from 2:30-4pm after school on selected dates.  Students must have a permission slip and current sports physical on file with the nurse to participate.  Students may join at any time.  We will begin with soccer on Tuesday, September 2.  All skill levels are welcome! Click HERE for a calendar of intramurals.

If your child plans to try out for one of our athletic teams and/or participate in intramurals, per School Board Policy, current physicals are required of all students to be on file prior to try-outs and/or participation in any inter-scholastic or intramural sport. All new students entering our district must present proof of immunizations and a health examination prior to the first day of attendance. Please note that physical examinations are good for 13 months from the date of the exam. If you have any additional questions about your child’s physical, please contact our school nurse.

After School 4:00pm late bus
For students who qualify for busing, our late runs will begin on Thursday, August 21. Any bus-riding student that stays after school can board a designated bus that departs from Addams at 4pm. Please note, activity buses do not drop off students at their regular bus stop. Instead, their drop-off locations are in the vicinity of what would be 2 or 3 regular bus stops. Students will learn which bus to board and which stop is best for them.

After school homework support will be available the week of September 8 at Addams. Students with excessive missing assignments will be asked to attend after school support on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Schaumburg Teen Center
aka The Club, provides afterschool programming to teens throughout Schaumburg, including D54 students. At the Club, we aim for each teen member to have fun in a safe environment, while fostering supportive relationships with staff and peers, exposing youth to unique program opportunities, and recognizing members for their efforts and accomplishments.
The Basics:
  • Our teen program offers FREE membership to ensure that all students interested in participating can join. The program is sponsored by various funding sources that are invested in the youth in their community.
  • Programs are offered Monday through Friday from 2:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at “the barn” on 231 Civic Drive. The Club also opens early on D54 half days and is open on select non-school days.
  • D54 provides transportation from Addams, on days when school is in session. Limited close-to-home evening transportation is also provided throughout the afternoon and evening.

Supervision/Behavior Expectations for Attending District 211 Football Games
As we approach another exciting season of high school football, District 211 values the presence and enthusiasm of our local junior high school students at our games. We believe that creating a positive and respectful environment is essential for everyone to enjoy the experience.
To that end, we would like to outline the supervision and behavior expectations we hold for our junior high school attendees: Role of Adult Chaperones: Junior high school students attending our games must be accompanied by a parent or adult responsible for their supervision. The presence of responsible adults not only ensures the safety and well-being of the students but also sets a positive example for behavior and sportsmanship.

NEW – Motorized Bikes, Scooters, and Skateboards Prohibited
Electric bikes, scooters and skateboards are not permitted on District 54 property, due to safety concerns including the potential for accidents and the possibility of fire associated with such devices. This applies to students, as well as to family members and friends who may be picking up or dropping off students at school.
