Principal’s Message

Addams Families,

It was another great week at Addams. Our 8th grade students experienced an Abilities Expo where they were able to try out and learn about different adaptive learning tools. In addition, our 7th and 8th grade orchestra students put on a magnificent performance to demonstrate their hard work in front of families and peers. Finally, I would like to congratulate our boys volleyball teams. Our 7th grade team finished second at the conference tournament while our 8th grade boys won the championship in incredible fashion. Our students have so much to celebrate, and we are proud of them.

We would like to extend our gratitude to the Addams Staff as we wrap up Teacher Appreciation Week! Our staff has worked diligently to build connections and support our Crusader students and for this we wanted to say thank you! A special shout out also goes to the Addams PTA and members of the Addams Community for the special treats and the kind messages this week. Have a fantastic weekend!

Regards,

Bill Musselman          Tricia Leong

Principal                     Assistant Principal

Morning Math and LMC update

Tuesday, May 20th will be the last day of morning math and LMC sessions. Students must have appointments scheduled with staff in order to arrive at 7am for the final week of school.

Physicals for 8th graders

If you think your student will participate in a high school summer sport camp and you will need a copy of their physical, please request it with Nurse Fatema ([email protected]) by May 28.

8th Grade Dance is TONIGHT

Our 8th grade dance will be held at Jane Addams Junior High for all interested 8th graders on Friday, May 9 from 6 to 8 pm. Tickets are no longer available for purchase and will not be sold at the door. All 8th grade students planning to attend must be academically eligible and display quality student behavior. To create a peak moment for our 8th graders, we are accepting snack, candy, and water donations for their end of the year events. All donations can be dropped off at the Addams office.

Graduation Gowns

Any 8th grader that has already paid for a gown, received it this past Monday. If your child did not receive the gown that means we still need you to purchase one ASAP. If you still need to purchase your child’s gown and medallion log on to the Infinite Campus parent portal and locating the “School Store” tab. The price for both of these items is $25 plus a small processing fee. If you prefer, you can send a check (made out to Jane Addams Junior High School) or $25 cash with your student to the main office. If purchasing the gown/medallion represents a hardship for any family, email Mr. Musselman and the school will be happy to provide financial support. Please note, District 54 students DO NOT wear caps for graduation.

8th Grade Graduation

This year we will be hosting our graduation at 5:30 pm on Tuesday, May 27, 2025 at Schaumburg High School. We will not be issuing tickets this year, however, due to the capacity of the gymnasium, we ask all families to please limit the total number of family members in attendance.

Please plan to arrive by 5:00 pm on the night of the ceremony so students have time to line up in the cafeteria and you have time to find your seats. There will be some seats available on the floor for individuals who cannot navigate the bleachers.

The last day of school for eighth-grade students will be Friday, May 23, 2025. On this day, students will be rehearsing for the graduation ceremony and all 8th grade students MUST be in attendance. 8th grade students will not be in attendance on Tuesday, May 27 prior to Graduation.

2025 Personal Assessment of Core Competency Survey

District 54 is committed to ensuring not only the academic success of each child, but also their social-emotional well-being. Similar to this winter, we are asking for your insight as a parent/guardian in creating the most well rounded picture of your child’s strengths and opportunities for growth. To gather your perspective, District 54 sent families of students in grades 3-8 an email link for each child to the D54 Social Emotional Learning Survey on Monday, April 21.  Thank you in advance for participating in this survey, as we believe the home-school collaboration is critical to best support your child’s overall well-being. The deadline to complete the survey is May 9.

Reminder you can also register your younger children who will be starting kindergarten in August 2025 through your portal account. If you do not have a portal account, or cannot remember your username or password, please contact [email protected].

If you do not intend to return for the 2025-2026 school year, please notify our school office and we will coordinate the transfer of records to your new school district. If you have any questions, please contact our office.

Kindergarten Registration

The countdown to an extraordinary journey has begun! Kindergarten registration for the 2025-2026 school year is now open! If you have a child who will be starting kindergarten in August 2025, we encourage you to log in to your Infinite Campus Parent Portal account and complete the online portion of the application now.  If you do not have your login, please contact [email protected].

After completing the online application, please call your child’s school to make an appointment to turn in necessary documents in order to finish your child’s registration. If you can, bring your future kindergartner with you, as we have a special surprise for them!

District 54 is also asking for your help in spreading the word about kindergarten registration. If you know of a child who will be 5 years old by September 1, 2025, please encourage the family to start their enrollment online at sd54.org/kindergarten. The sooner students enroll, the sooner District 54 will know how many kindergarten teachers we need to best serve our kindergarten class of 2025-26.

No Food Deliveries Allowed

District 54 Virtual Backpack

District 54 shares information about community events with our students and families through our Virtual Backpack.  We know that parents are interested in extracurricular activities. At the same time, we don’t want the homework, letters from the teachers, school news and other important district information to get lost among the countless other pieces of paper in our students’ backpacks.  Please click here for additional information.
