Addams Families,
The third trimester is upon us, and the staff and students are off to a great start. Please continue to stay connected to your child’s teachers and do not hesitate to reach out to us with any questions. I would like to recognize our Wrestling and Girls Volleyball teams for completing successful seasons this week. They represented Addams with honor.
As we look ahead to next week, we will participate in Respect Week. See the above graphic for ways that your child can help us continue to grow as an inclusive environment where all are accepted and respected.
As always, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact our front office staff or me. Thank you for your patience, flexibility, and support and we will Accept, Achieve, and Amaze to ensure the success of our students.
Regards,
Bill Musselman Tricia Leong
Principal Assistant Principal
Team up with Addams to take the Polar Plunge
On March 2o, 2025, Addams JH will be a part of the Cool School Challenge with the Polar Plunge. Members from Special Olympics, along with our Addams Family, will be hosting this event onsite at Addams after school. Click HERE to see our Polar Plunge Commercials. Students can contribute by donating to their Inspires, as they will be competing over the next two weeks to see who can raise the money. If your child would like to take the plunge, they must register HERE, and raise at least $100. Participants will be able to go directly into the locker rooms and change into warm clothes. More information for the March 20th celebratory plunge will be shared at a later date. Participants and donors can also join our Cool Crusaders team by clicking HERE.
Addams Musical
Tickets are now on sale during lunch periods for this year’s musical, The Addams Family. Shows will be held Friday, March 7 at 7 pm and Saturday, March 8 at 1 pm and 7 pm. Tickets are $3 per person. You can also pay at the door. Don’t miss out on the chance to see our students shine!
Report Cards
2nd trimester report cards will go live on the Infinite Campus Parent Portal on March 3.
5 Essentials Survey
Once again, we are reaching out to our families and asking you to participate in the annual Illinois 5Essentials Survey to provide us with your perspective and help guide our school improvement efforts. The parent survey will be available online through March 29, 2025, at survey.5-essentials.org/Illinois.
The survey is administered by UChicago Impact at the University of Chicago on behalf of the Illinois State Board of Education. If at least 20 percent of parents at a school complete the survey, a supplemental parent report will be generated and shared with schools. We are hoping to meet the target this year in our schools.
Boys Volleyball
Boys Volleyball season is right around the corner and will begin on Monday, March 10th, 2025.
New for spring sports this year, registration and concussion protocols will now be completed online through your Infinite Campus Parent Portal. If your child is interested in trying out for the Boys Volleyball team, please click HERE for step by step instructions on how to sign up. Students are still required to have an up-to-date physical on file with our school nurse. Sense of all forms can still be picked up in school.
Track and Field
Track and Field begins Friday, April 4, 2025. Any student who is interested in trying-out needs to have completed a permission slip and a current physical on file with our school nurse.
New to Track and Field this season, the permission slip will be electronic and can be accessed and completed through the Infinite Campus Parent Portal. Permission slips and current physicals are due by Friday, April 4th at 2:15 p.m. For your reference, please click HERE for instructions on how to register your child for a sport.
IAR (Illinois Assessment of Readiness)
Each spring, students in District 54 take federally mandated assessments (IAR) designed to help school districts understand how our students are growing academically. This year, the English Language Arts and Math Assessment for grades 3-8 will be given at school between March 3th and March 21st. Addams students will be taking the assessments March 4-7.

8th Grade Graduation
This year we will be hosting our graduation at 5:30 pm on Tuesday, May 27, 2025 at Schaumburg High School. We will not be issuing tickets this year, however, due to the capacity of the gymnasium, we ask all families to please limit the total number of family members in attendance.
Please plan to arrive by 5:00 pm on the night of the ceremony so students have time to line up in the cafeteria and you have time to find your seats. There will be some seats available on the floor for individuals who cannot navigate the bleachers.
The last day of school for eighth-grade students will be Friday, May 23, 2025. On this day, students will be rehearsing for the graduation ceremony and all 8th grade students MUST be in attendance. 8th grade students will not be in attendance on Tuesday, May 27 prior to Graduation.
Graduation Gowns and Medals
All graduates will be required to purchase a gown and a keepsake medallion for the ceremony. 8th grade parents, you have the option to pay for the gown and medallion by logging on to the Infinite Campus parent portal and locating the “School Store” tab. The price for both of these items is $25 plus a small processing fee. If you prefer, you can send a check (made out to Jane Addams Junior High School) or $25 cash with your student to the main office. If purchasing the gown/medallion represents a hardship for any family, email Mr. Musselman and the school will be happy to provide financial support. Students will not receive the above items until payment is received or arrangements have been made. Let us know if you have any questions.

D54 eLearning Plan
Now that winter has arrived, we wanted to remind you about District 54’s eLearning plan. Should an emergency day be needed, the first two closures will be traditional school cancellations. Should additional cancellations be necessary, District 54 will have up to three eLearning days, ensuring the last day of school occurs no later than Friday, May 30, 2025. Should a school cancellation occur, families will be notified as usual and the notification will indicate whether it is a traditional closing or eLearning day.
During an eLearning day, students in grades K-8 will utilize their District 54 devices to access activities aligned with their grade level curriculum. These activities will be asynchronous, meaning students are not live on Zoom with their teachers. Students will have five days to complete these activities. Junior high students can access activities by 8:30 a.m. and elementary by 9:00 a.m. on the identified eLearning Day. For any questions, please contact your child’s building principal or visit sd54.org/district-54-e-learning-plan.
Spanish Speech Contest
District 54 is excited to announce its 13th annual Spanish Speech Contest on May 2, 2025. Students in 3rd through 8th grade who are interested in participating should prepare a written speech, a video of themselves delivering the speech and submit both along with the application by March 7th. Finalists will be notified via Parent Square on April 11th. For more information or to submit an application, visit the District 54 Spanish Speech Contest website.
Kindergarten Registration
The countdown to an extraordinary journey has begun! Kindergarten registration for the 2025-2026 school year is now open!
If you have a child who will be starting kindergarten in August 2025, we encourage you to log in to your Infinite Campus Parent Portal account and complete the online portion of the application now. If you do not have your login, please contact [email protected].
After completing the online application, please call your child’s school to make an appointment to turn in necessary documents in order to finish your child’s registration. If you can, bring your future kindergartner with you, as we have a special surprise for them!
District 54 is also asking for your help in spreading the word about kindergarten registration. If you know of a child who will be 5 years old by September 1, 2025, please encourage the family to start their enrollment online at sd54.org/kindergarten. The sooner students enroll, the sooner District 54 will know how many kindergarten teachers we need to best serve our kindergarten class of 2025-26.
No Food Deliveries Allowed
With a focus on student and staff safety, District 54 does not allow food delivery services (including, but not limited to, GrubHub, DoorDash, and local restaurants) to our schools.

District 54 Virtual Backpack
District 54 shares information about community events with our students and families through our Virtual Backpack. We know that parents are interested in extracurricular activities. At the same time, we don’t want the homework, letters from the teachers, school news and other important district information to get lost among the countless other pieces of paper in our students’ backpacks. Please click here for additional information.
