Polar Plunge at Addams on Thursday, March 2oth

On March 20, Addams will be participating in the Cool School Challenge with the Polar Plunge. Members from Special Olympics along with our Addams staff will be hosting this event onsite at Addams.  A commercial advertising for the event is coming soon to help surpass our goal of $5,000!  Students can volunteer to raise money, and if they raise at least $100 by March 19th, they will be able to participate by plunging into a cold pool outside after school.  Students will then go directly into the locker rooms from the outside doors and change into warm clothes.  Parents of students participating in the event on March 20 are more than welcome to attend.  More information for the March 20th celebratory plunge will be shared at a later date.   To register to take the plunge or donate to support a student plunger click on LINK.  Participants and donors can also join our Cool Crusaders team by clicking HERE.

5 Essentials Survey
Once again, we are reaching out to our families and asking you to participate in the annual Illinois 5Essentials Survey to provide us with your perspective and help guide our school improvement efforts. The parent survey will be available online through March 29, 2025, at survey.5-essentials.org/Illinois

The survey is administered by UChicago Impact at the University of Chicago on behalf of the Illinois State Board of Education. If at least 20 percent of parents at a school complete the survey, a supplemental parent report will be generated and shared with schools. We are hoping to meet the target this year in our schools.

Boys Volleyball

Boys Volleyball season is right around the corner and will begin on Monday, March 10th, 2025.

New for spring sports this year, registration and concussion protocols will now be completed online through your Infinite Campus Parent Portal.  If your child is interested in trying out for the Boys Volleyball team, please click HERE for step by step instructions on how to sign up. Students are still required to have an up-to-date physical on file with our school nurse. Paper versions of all forms can still be picked up in school.

IAR (Illinois Assessment of Readiness)

Each spring, students in District 54 take federally mandated assessments (IAR) designed to help school districts understand how our students are growing academically.  This year, the English Language Arts and Math Assessment for grades 3-8 will be given at school between March 3th and March 21st.  Addams students will be taking the assessments March 4-7.

8th Grade Graduation

This year we will be hosting our graduation at 5:30 pm on Tuesday, May 27, 2025 at Schaumburg High School. The last day of school for eighth-grade students will be Friday, May 23, 2025. On this day, students will be rehearsing for the graduation ceremony and all 8th grade students MUST be in attendance. 8th grade students will not be in attendance on Tuesday, May 27 prior to Graduation.

Graduation Gowns and Medals

All graduates will be required to purchase a gown and a keepsake medallion for the ceremony. 8th grade parents, you have the option to pay for the gown and medallion by logging on to the Infinite Campus parent portal and locating the “School Store” tab. The price for both of these items is $25 plus a small processing fee. If you prefer, you can send a check (made out to Jane Addams Junior High School) or $25 cash with your student to the main office. If purchasing the gown/medallion represents a hardship for any family, email Mr. Musselman and the school will be happy to provide financial support. Students will not receive the above items until payment is received or arrangements have been made. Let us know if you have any questions.
