Dear Addams Families,
It has been a busy week at Jane Addams Junior High! On Wednesday, students completed a goal setting activity during Inspire as they reflected what they would like to accomplish this school year. Next, students and staff took part in a very energetic 3 A’s Assembly. The Language Arts Department gave out the first 3 A’s awards of the year to students and staff that embodied the character traits of Accept, Achieve and Amaze. Then staff and student volunteers took part in some football themed games. On Thursday, our cross country coaches hosted the 23rd Annual Addams Fall Flite. It was an inspirational afternoon as student athletes from 16 schools competed in the races. The rain held off for most of the event and it was a wonderful event to bring the community to our school that we are so proud.
If you are free tonight, our amazing 8th grade band will be traveling to Schaumburg High School to take part in the halftime show with other junior highs and the high school band. The rain has passed and it should be a beautiful evening for Friday Night Lights!
Finally, I am thrilled to announce that Addams has earned a special honor from Special Olympics. We were recently told that we have been recertified as a National Unified Champion School. Since its inception in 2018, there have only been 17 schools across the state to receive National Banner status with Special Olympics Illinois Unified Champion Schools. 4 of those schools have renewed their status. Jane Addams Junior High is among those 4 elite schools. A Special Olympics Unified Champion School has an inclusive school climate and exudes a sense of collaboration, engagement and respect for all members of the student body and staff. A Unified Champion School receiving national banner recognition is one that has demonstrated commitment to inclusion by meeting 10 national standards of excellence. These standards were developed by a national panel of leaders from Special Olympics and the education community. This is a huge honor that speaks to the work of our staff at ensuring all are “accepted and respected” at Addams Junior High.
Do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns as we work together to ensure that our students maximize their learning potential.
Regards,
Chris Bingen Bill Musselman
Principal Assistant Principal

District 54 shares information about community events with our students and families through our Virtual Backpack. We know that parents are interested in extracurricular activities. At the same time, we don’t want the homework, letters from the teachers, school news and other important district information to get lost among the countless other pieces of paper in our students’ backpacks.
