Principal's Message

Dear Addams Families,

Happy Halloween Weekend! This week, our Crusaders showcased their school spirit by completing our first successful spirit week! We continued to be very proud of our students for their high levels of academic engagement, especially for 8th grade students as they strolled down the street to write a descriptive piece about a spooky house. Next week, we are kicking off our basketball, poms, and cheer seasons with games. I can’t believe next week brings November, meaning the end of the 1st Trimester Friday, November 6.

Looking ahead, we are preparing for our upcoming November conferences. Sign-ups for our open-format conferences will go live this Monday—please see below for additional details on how to reserve your time. Just a reminder, there is no school on Tuesday, 11/3 and we have an early dismissal at 10:45 on Friday, 11/6.

Do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns as we work together to ensure that our students Accept, Achieve, and Amaze.

Regards,
Bill Musselman, Principal
Stefanie Veit, Assistant Principal

Boo Bash
Tonight is the night! Addams Staff members and I are excited to create an AMAZING moment tonight for all attendees. Please know that tickets will not be sold at the door. We are asking all attending students to arrive at the dance no later than 5:30pm. If there are extenuating circumstances preventing this, please contact the main office at 847-357-5900. Also, per school board policy, students MUST be in attendance at school on the day of the dance in order to attend.

While not required, students may wear Halloween costumes to the dance. When choosing an appropriate costume for the dance, please adhere to the following guidelines:

  • No fake blood, gore, scary costumes or costumes depicting violence

  • No weapons or “look-alikes” of any kind (squirt guns, chains, whips, plastic swords, etc.)

  • Ensure that costumes are appropriate and inoffensive to all ages at our school

  • Be certain that your child can see through any mask or head covering

Parent Teacher Conferences
We are pleased to announce the upcoming Student-Led Conference schedule for November 18 and 19. Our annual objective is to maximize engagement opportunities between our staff and the families we serve.

We request that the majority of our families register for the open format conference which goes live on Monday at 9:00 am. Families will be allocated a 45 minute window, providing them the flexibility to navigate the building and connect with their child’s educators.

In the infrequent circumstance that a family cannot attend the open format conferences, a limited number of brief virtual (Google Meet) appointments will be made available on Wednesday and Thursday afternoon. These sign ups will come out next Wednesday at 9:00 am.

Below is the schedule for November 18 and 19:

Support the Troops
Do you have a lot of leftover candy from Halloween? Consider donating it to our troops! This is a great way to send them some love, and candy, while they are serving our country overseas. Please drop off bags of candy to the main office so our Crusader Community can give back to our servicemen. Please have all donations to the office by Friday November 6th. Thank you so much for your support and contributions.

Celebrating Our Veterans
Veterans Day is approaching, and we want to honor the heroes in our own school community! We are building a Veterans Tribute Wall in our hallway and would love to include your family members. If you have a veteran in your family, please email a photo to your child's Social Studies teacher along with:

  1. Veteran's Name

  2. Branch of Military

  3. Relationship to Student

No After School Activities - 11/20
There will be no after school activities and no late run buses on Friday, November 20th. All students should go home at 2:15pm.

Crusader School Store
Thank to you all of the families that have donated to our Crusader Store! Your generosity is greatly appreciated.

Our students are working hard to earn Crusader Cash, and we are excited to see how motivated they are to demonstrate positive behaviors throughout our school! We are reaching out to ask for your help in stocking our Crusader Cash Store with fun and meaningful rewards for students to purchase with the cash they earn.

The Crusader Cash Store is an important part of our school-wide PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) framework. PBIS focuses on recognizing and reinforcing positive behaviors, encouraging students to make good choices, demonstrate our school expectations, and contribute to a positive school environment. The store gives students a tangible way to see that their hard work and positive choices are noticed and valued.

Every donation, big or small, helps us recognize our students and keep the Crusader Cash Store a motivating part of our PBIS program. Thank you for supporting our students and helping us celebrate their hard work, positive choices, and success!

Student Drop-off/Pick-up
The following procedures have been established because student safety is our primary concern. We understand that some arrival/dismissal procedures may be an inconvenience, but as stated above, safety is our top priority. A community map is attached, and I highlighted the two appropriate areas to drop off students. To ensure student safety, cars are not allowed in the Addams parking lot from 7:20 - 7:40.

  • All big bus riders will enter the building through Doors 1 and 5

  • All small bus riders should enter the building through the cafeteria doors

  • Students who walk or are dropped off from the Atcher Pool and Dartmouth Lane directions should enter the building through door 5 (YELLOW pathway on map)

  • Students who walk or are dropped off from the Norwell and Westover Lanes should enter the building through door 21 after utilizing the crosswalk in our parking lot (BLUE pathway on map)

  • Parking on Norwell Lane in front of Addams is prohibited

D54 Virtual Backpack
District 54 shares information about community events with our students and families through our Virtual Backpack. We know that parents are interested in extracurricular activities. At the same time, we don’t want the homework, letters from the teachers, school news and other important district information to get lost among the countless other pieces of paper in our students’ backpacks. Please click here for additional information.

No Food Deliveries Allowed
With a focus on student and staff safety, District 54 will not allow food delivery services (including, but not limited to, GrubHub, DoorDash, and local restaurants) to our schools. We will continue to have hot lunch days, which are planned events, organized and supervised by school or PTA volunteers. However, we will no longer accept other outside food deliveries to keep our schools secure.
