Dear Addams Families,
This week was a memorable one! On Wednesday, Addams welcomed inspirational speaker, author, and former professional baseball player Chris Singleton for a powerful all-school assembly. Delivering a deeply moving message centered on resilience, forgiveness, belonging, and acceptance, Chris challenged our students to think about how their words, choices, and actions can make a positive difference in the lives of others. His core message—that "love is stronger than hate"—aligned seamlessly with our 3 A’s mentality, reminding our Crusaders of the strength that comes from uplifting each other and embracing what makes each of us unique. It was a phenomenal event filled with connection, reflection, and unmistakable school pride, serving as an inspiring reminder of just how strong we are when we stand together as an Addams Family.
We are excited to see our band and orchestra students perform at Schaumburg Septemberfest on Sept. 5 on the outdoor stage. Our band students will perform at 11:00 am and our orchestra students will perform at 12:30 pm. What a fantastic way to end a great week!

School News
FLEX Thursdays
This Thursday, students experienced their first FLEX session where they began the day in their Inspire classes for 40 minutes. FLEX is a program at Addams where the staff spends structured time with small groups of students to facilitate a variety of activities designed to raise student achievement. Each FLEX period begins with students logging onto the Infinite Campus portal and checking their grades. Students also make sure they have no missing assignments. Next, teachers pull small groups while other students are working on homework or completing any work that is missing. Sometimes, the staff member works with a targeted group(s) to reteach material that the students have yet to master after initial instruction. Other weeks, teachers pull small group(s) that have already met the learning objective to offer an enrichment activity that will challenge these students. Finally, some weeks a whole department will pull a group of students to prepare for an upcoming assessment or concert, etc. It truly is a FLEX period, as the staff has flexibility to complete many tasks, all related to increasing student achievement.
Student Planners
I am happy to let you know that we just received a new shipment of Addams Student Planners. Students or parents may purchase the planner for $10 from the main office using cash, credit, and tap to pay. Please note: while all students are required to have an assignment notebook, they are not required to purchase our custom Addams planner.
Crusader School Store
Our students are working hard to earn Crusader Cash, and we are excited to see how motivated they are to demonstrate positive behaviors throughout our school! We are reaching out to ask for your help in stocking our Crusader Cash Store with fun and meaningful rewards for students to purchase with the cash they earn.
The Crusader Cash Store is an important part of our school-wide PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) framework. PBIS focuses on recognizing and reinforcing positive behaviors, encouraging students to make good choices, demonstrate our school expectations, and contribute to a positive school environment. The store gives students a tangible way to see that their hard work and positive choices are noticed and valued.
Every donation, big or small, helps us recognize our students and keep the Crusader Cash Store a motivating part of our PBIS program. Thank you for supporting our students and helping us celebrate their hard work, positive choices, and success!

Cell Phones and Electronic Devices
Cell phones must be silenced and away during school hours. If students are using a cell phone or an electronic device while in class or during passing periods, it will result in confiscation of the item. The confiscated item can be returned to a student’s parent. These devices include, but are not limited to: cell phones, smart watches, earbuds, air pods and headphones.
Pizza Sales at Addams
Cheese pizza will be served from Old Town Pizza every Tuesday and Thursday for interested students.
Pizza is $3 per slice and sold during all lunch periods. We accept cash and electronic payments. A convenience fee will be added to all electronic transactions.
Sports Intramurals
Intramurals is open for student sign-up! Intramurals are a "drop-in" basis, meaning students can choose when they want to attend--no commitment is required. A variety of activities will be offered including team sports, net games, large group games, and fitness. Intramurals are from 2:30-4pm after school on selected dates. Students must have a permission slip and current sports physical on file with the nurse to participate. Students may join at any time. We will begin with soccer on Monday, August 31. Picture Day
Addams picture day will be Monday, September 14. Representatives from Lifetouch will be at Addams on this day to take students’ pictures. Ordering is made easy by visiting this year’s school pictures at mylifetouch.com. Please use the following Picture Day ID: EVT2J2NZB. If your child is absent on picture day, they can make it up on Picture Retake Day, October 23.
Student Drop-off/Pick-up
The following procedures have been established because student safety is our primary concern. We understand that some arrival/dismissal procedures may be an inconvenience, but as stated above, safety is our top priority. A community map is attached, and I highlighted the two appropriate areas to drop off students. To ensure student safety, cars are not allowed in the Addams parking lot from 7:20 - 7:40.
There is no adult supervision prior to the 7:30 am bell. Therefore, students should arrive at school no earlier than 7:25 am. (unless coming early for morning math support or study hall)
All big bus riders will enter the building through Doors 1 and 5
All small bus riders should enter the building through the cafeteria doors
Students who walk or are dropped off from the Atcher Pool and Dartmouth Lane directions should enter the building through door 5 (YELLOW pathway on map)
Students who walk or are dropped off from the Norwell and Westover Lanes should enter the building through door 21 after utilizing the crosswalk in our parking lot (BLUE pathway on map)
Parking on Norwell Lane in front of Addams is prohibited
Dropping students off on Springinsguth Road is strictly prohibited
School Hours & Office Hours
School hours are 7:30 a.m. – 2:15 p.m. with first period beginning at 7:40 am. Please note: beginning Wednesday, August 19, every Wednesday is designated for staff development. Students are dismissed 30 minutes early at 1:45 p.m.
Addams office hours are Monday - Friday from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM. Please note that our student absence line (847-357-5902) is available 24 hours a day. If your child will be absent from school, please call before 7:30 AM to report an absence.

District 54 News
Supervision/Behavior Expectations for Attending District 211 Games
District 211 asked us to remind families of their supervision requirements for athletic events, to ensure a safe, positive, and enjoyable environment for everyone. While the high schools value the presence and enthusiasm of younger students, they also require that all elementary and junior high school students be supervised by an adult while attending events, such as football games. Adults may bring up to four students to a game and must stay on site while the students are in attendance. Junior high students who cannot identify their adult chaperone at the event will be asked to leave. If you have any specific questions in regards to these policies, please reach out to District 211 directly.
No Chromebook and iPad Stickers
Please ensure your children are not placing stickers on their Chromebooks and iPad cases. This is a change in practice in District 54, as our technology department spends countless hours each summer removing these stickers from thousands of devices.
Septemberfest Parking
Looking for somewhere to park when visiting Schaumburg's Septemberfest this weekend? When you park at Collins School (407 S. Summit Drive in Schaumburg), your $10 donation directly benefits financially struggling families in District 54. Open Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 5-6, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Free Vaccine Clinic - Sept. 16
School District 54 is partnering with the Illinois Department of Public Health to offer a free vaccine clinic from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the District 54 Professional Learning Center, 522 E. Schaumburg Road in Schaumburg (enter through door C1). Licensed health care professionals will provide all required and recommended vaccines. No insurance or ID is required, but parents/guardians must be present and consent for all children under 18 years old. Registration is encouraged, and families can register by clicking on this link. However, walk-ins are also welcome.
Multicultural Parent Advisory Council
You are invited to join us at the Schaumburg District 54 Professional Learning Center (522 E. Schaumburg Rd. - DOOR C1) from 5:00-6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 16 as District 54's Multicultural Parent Advisory Council presents a session for parents on “The Key to Success for English Learners in District 54." During the meeting we will review how English Learners are identified in District 54 and discuss the information that ACCESS scores provide regarding your student's learning. We will also share tips for creating a partnership with your students’ teachers, review the Evidence Based Funding in District 54, and explain how support is provided for multilingual learners. Interpreters will be available.

D54 Virtual Backpack
District 54 shares information about community events with our students and families through our Virtual Backpack. We know that parents are interested in extracurricular activities. At the same time, we don’t want the homework, letters from the teachers, school news and other important district information to get lost among the countless other pieces of paper in our students’ backpacks. Motorized Bikes, Scooters, etc. Prohibited
Electric bikes, scooters and skateboards are not permitted on District 54 property, due to safety concerns including the potential for accidents and the possibility of fire associated with such devices. This applies to students, as well as to family members and friends who may be picking up or dropping off students at school.
No Food Deliveries Allowed
With a focus on student and staff safety, District 54 will not allow food delivery services (including, but not limited to, GrubHub, DoorDash, and local restaurants) to our schools. We will continue to have hot lunch days, which are planned events, organized and supervised by school or PTA volunteers. However, we will no longer accept other outside food deliveries to keep our schools secure.
