We hope everyone is having a fantastic week! Our students seem to be getting into the rhythm and routines of the school year. If you have not done so recently, we would suggest that you ask your child to take a few minutes to give you a tour of their Google classrooms this weekend. I am sure you will be amazed as we have been with their work so far this school year.
Do not hesitate to contact us if your child is in need of extra support.
Enjoy the beautiful fall weather and have a great weekend! Go Bears!

October Parent-Teacher Conferences
School District 54 is now making it easier than ever for families to schedule conferences with teachers. We’ve partnered with “Meet the Teacher” to provide a mobile-friendly and easy-to-use system that creates a simple and streamlined scheduling experience. To login and schedule a conference, please visit https://schooldistrict54.meettheteacher.com/ and enter the information in the text fields. Please make sure you enter the information that matches the student’s registration. If you have more than one child in District 54, you will only have to use one child’s information to login. The system will show you options for all the students in your household after you login once.
Once you’re in the system, you’ll be able to select your child’s/children’s teacher(s) and your preferred dates and times. If you prefer to have your conference virtually via Zoom, please add a message to the conference when prompted and type in the word “Zoom.” If you prefer to have an in-person conference, please leave this blank. If you would like to change or delete any scheduled conferences, you can do so by logging in again with the same information. We encourage you to bookmark the website https://schooldistrict54.meettheteacher.com/ on your phone, tablet, or desktop to review, possibly make changes, and for future parent-teacher conference sessions.
The site will close on Wednesday, October 6 at 4:00 PM.
For more detailed information on how to login and navigate the site, please view our guide below. If you have any questions, please call the Addams main office or email [email protected]
Eighth Grade High School Placement Exam
District 211 will be administering a placement exam (PSAT 8/9) for incoming freshman (current eighth grade students) on Saturday, October 16, 2021. Incoming freshmen are required to complete a placement exam. The results of the placement exam assist in determining the English, math, and science courses the student will participate in during 9th grade. The exam results also help identify students for required participation in the Incoming Freshmen Academy math and reading summer school programs.
District 211 uses the PSAT 8/9 as its placement exam. The PSAT 8/9 is part of a series of exams offered by the College Board and serves as a precursor to the SAT, a long standing college entrance exam that also is used by the State of Illinois as its mandated student achievement test for third-year high school students. The PSAT 8/9 provides scores for mathematics and evidence-based reading and writing. More information about the PSAT 8/9 is available on the College Board website at https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/psat-8-9.
The Class of 2026 will take its placement exam on Saturday, October 16, 2021. Testing begins promptly at 8:00 a.m. and students should arrive no later than 7:45 a.m. in order to check-in and locate their assigned testing rooms. Students should bring at least two No. 2 pencils and a calculator when reporting for the placement exam. Calculators are allowed for portions of the mathematics exam, however, smartphones are not allowed to be used as calculators. The exam will conclude at 11:15 a.m. Students will not be dismissed early. Enrollment materials may be submitted during the placement exam. Students eligible for testing accommodations will receive information about accessing these supports in the weeks leading up to the exam date. Questions about the placement exam can be directed to the Director of Student Services at the high school your child will be attending.

Eighth Grade High School Transition
In the coming weeks, District 211 will be posting some basic information including details about their course placement process as well as incoming freshmen information on their website, along with each high school’s website. Additionally, as I receive information from District 211 regarding the transition into high school for our eighth graders, I will push that information out to the families.
If have not already done so, email our school nurse [email protected] or drop off a copy of your child’s vaccination card if they are fully vaccinated. Current IDPH guidance states that vaccinated students do not have to quarantine if they are in close contact to a student that tests positive for COVID-19.
Before and After School Support
If you child needs extra academic support, we are here for them. The mathematics department provides a Math Help Center every morning starting at 7 am. Students just need to stop in the main office and we will check them in and send them up to room 207 for support. In addition, the Library Media Center is open everyday starting at 7 am and is open until 3 pm Monday through Thursday.

With suburban Cook County now in a level of high community transmission of COVID-19 (Cook County Department of Public Health), District 54 has decided to create COVID Dashboards on each school’s website to provide families and staff with a transparent summary of instances of COVID-19 reported to District 54. A positive case indicates that the student or staff member has tested positive for COVID-19. Please report cases of COVID-19 to our school so that we can initiate contact tracing. Parents/guardians of students identified as close contacts will be contacted directly to discuss next steps. District 54 will update these dashboards by 3 p.m. on Fridays when school is in session.
