Principal’s Message

With tomorrow being the 20th anniversary of 9/11/2001, we would like to take a minute to recognize the first responders in our community who ensure that we are safe each day. We appreciate you!  This morning, our very own Mr. Glesne, a Social Studies teacher, recited a short speech about the importance of 9/11 to our nation over the PA. Students then took part in a powerful webinar during Social Studies classes throughout the day. If you would like to continue the discussion with your child at home, feel free to check out the limited release webinar by clicking here

This coming Wednesday, 9/15, we look forward to having some fun while celebrating the accomplishments of students and staff at our first Addams Pep Assemblies of the school year. Weather permitting, we will hold grade level assemblies outside. If the weather does not cooperate, the assemblies will be held over Zoom from classrooms. This will be the one of the first times that our students will really get to “join the movement” of Addams as we highlight the three A’s of AcceptingAchieving and Amazing!

Have a great weekend!
 Regards,

Chris Bingen       Bill Musselman

October Conferences

We look forward to connecting with you at our parent-teacher conferences on Thursday, October 7, and Friday, October 8.  More information will be provided in the near future regarding conferences.

Eighth Grade High School Transition
In the coming weeks, District 211 will be posting some basic information including details about their course placement process as well as incoming freshmen information on their website, along with each high school’s website.  Additionally, as I receive information from District 211 regarding the transition into high school for our eighth graders, I will push that information out to the families.

Chick-Fil-A Fundraiser
The District 54 Foundation is sponsoring a Chick-Fil-A fundraiser on seven dates this school year. Please fill out and return to the school office the attached form by Friday, September 24th to have your child participate.

Vaccination Information

If have not already done so, email our school nurse [email protected] or drop off a copy of your child’s vaccination card if they are fully vaccinated. Current IDPH guidance states that vaccinated students do not have to quarantine if they are in close contact to a student that tests positive for COVID-19.

Before and After School Support

If you child needs extra academic support, we are here for them. The mathematics department provides a Math Help Center every morning starting at 7 am. Students just need to stop in the main office and we will check them in and send them up to room 207 for support. In addition, the Library Media Center is open everyday starting at 7 am and is open until 3 pm Monday through Thursday.

COVID Dashboard

With suburban Cook County now in a level of high community transmission of COVID-19 (Cook County Department of Public Health), District 54 has decided to create COVID Dashboards on each school’s website to provide families and staff with a transparent summary of instances of COVID-19 reported to District 54. A positive case indicates that the student or staff member has tested positive for COVID-19. Please report cases of COVID-19 to our school so that we can initiate contact tracing. Parents/guardians of students identified as close contacts will be contacted directly to discuss next steps. District 54 will update these dashboards by 3 p.m. on Fridays when school is in session. Addams COVID Dashboard

Reminders of District 54 COVID Mitigation Strategies to Start the 2021-2022 School Year

  • Masking: All students, staff and visitors will be required to wear masks while on District 54 provided transportation and in District 54 schools regardless of vaccination status in accordance with Illinois Governor JB Pritzker’s Executive Order issued yesterday, August 4, 2021. Students will be able to remove their masks during lunch/snack and while outside for PE, recess or other instructional activities.

  • Social distancing: District 54 will continue to have staff and students maintain 3-6 feet of physical distance whenever possible.

  • Symptom Screening:Parents/guardians should continue to monitor their children for symptoms of COVID-19, keep their children home if they are ill, and immediately share with their child’s school if your child or a member of your household tests positive for COVID-19. All individuals are required to stay at home while symptomatic and are encouraged to test for COVID-19. COVID-19 Symptoms include:
    • Fever or chills
    • Cough
    • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
    • Fatigue
    • Muscle or body aches
    • Headache
    • New loss of taste or smell
    • Sore throat
    • Congestion or runny nose
    • Nausea or vomiting
    • Diarrhea

  • Quarantining: The Cook County Department of Public Health has the sole authority for determining if an individual is required to quarantine and the length of quarantine. District 54 is required to report all positive cases and close contacts to the health department. In situations where students are quarantined, they will be allowed to make up all missed homework and tests.

  • Vaccination: District 54 continues to recommend vaccination for all individuals ages 12 and above. If your child has been vaccinated, please send a copy of the vaccination record to your school nurse. Fully vaccinated individuals without symptoms do not need to quarantine if they are exposed to a positive case.  If you do not wish to share your children’s COVID-19 vaccination information with us, that is your choice. However, without proof of vaccination, we will consider your children unvaccinated.

  • Visitors: All adults in our school buildings — staff members, parents, volunteers, visitors, etc. — will be required to wear face masks at school, regardless of their vaccination status. In this way, trusted adults will model and reinforce the importance of helping keep each other safe and healthy.

  • Cleaning and Disinfecting: District 54 will maintain a continued emphasis on cleaning and disinfecting protocols, including hand hygiene and respiratory etiquette.
