Students playing team building game     Student with computer

Dear Addams Community,

What an impactful week at Jane Addams Junior High! With a long way weekend approaching the students and staff made sure to capitalize on the time we did have. On Thursday, as a building, we “prepped” ourselves for the road ahead. Students were able to “revisit” their vision boards and evaluate what is still important to them in their life journey and what areas still need work. With their goals in line, students then experienced “pitfalls” and had to “shift their mindset” with a classroom tarp challenge. Once their positive/growth mindsets were in the right place, they were then able to focus on the happiness advantage by spreading the message to their peers over at Keller. Let’s just say the Keller students will certainly “get the message” in lunch. To round out our day, we worked to increase our own individual levels of happiness by getting up and getting moving. Our whole building participated in a fun 15 activity – exercise and social investment at its finest! The Addams staff felt good sending our students out for this LONG weekend knowing they were in the right mindset and they would be focused on the future when they returned.

While school ended early on Thursday, more fun was had at our parent teacher conferences. Students and parents connected with teachers, discussed progress of students, and made plans for how to achieve even more success during the second half of the year. Since conferences fell on Valentine’s Day, the Addams staff decided to create the “Addams Amore” café. Parents and students could spend some quality time together. Families sipped hot chocolate, decorated coffee mugs, feasted on heart shaped cookies and wrote ”grateful” valentines to special people in their life. Our Addams valentine goes to our parents who continue to partner with us to make sure their child continues to learn and grow.

Wishing all our students and families a restful, long weekend. See you Tuesday!
