News from Addams 1/12/2018

Dear Addams Community:

Happy New Year to the entire community! The beginning of the year is a perfect time for us to reflect and reevaluate short and long-term goals. It has been an outstanding week at Addams as staff and students have reestablished routines and discussed collective learning goals for the rest of the 2nd trimester. As a reminder, if your child is in need of social, emotional or academic support, never hesitate to contact us. We always want to ensure that are working in partnership with our parents to ensure student success of every student at Addams.

5Essentials Parent SurveyWe want your feedback!
All District 54 parents are encouraged to take the Illinois State Board of Education’s 5Essentials Survey by Jan. 31 at The parent survey is only 26 questions will allow parents to share their thoughts on the important elements of school effectiveness and help us guide school improvement. It is estimated that the survey should take approximately ten to fifteen minutes to complete. We appreciate your support.

Student-Led Conferences
Please join us on February 15-16, 2018 for student-led conferences at Addams. During these conferences, your child will have an opportunity to share with you his/her academic progress and personal growth. Students should bring their Chromebooks to conferences as they will be used to facilitate the student-led portion of the conference. You will then have an opportunity to briefly meet individually with all of your student’s teachers.

Sign-up for these conferences will again be conducted electronically through a link that will be sent out to parents in Late January.

Atcher Park drop off request
A safety concern has been brought to our attention regarding drop off of students at Atcher Park in the morning when buses are present. In collaboration with the Schaumburg Police Department, they have suggested that drop-off is much safer if done across the street on Dartmouth Lane. Students then can cross the street via the crossing guard. We ask that you refrain from going in Atcher Park from 7:25 to 7:35 am. It is very dangerous for the buses to pull out as parents are trying to turn in to Atcher Park. We ask for your support in keeping our students safe.

District 54 Cold Weather Response Plan
In order to help parents better prepare for the severe cold weather and snow we often get during winters in our community, I wanted to share with you the District 54 Severe Cold Weather Response Plan. Though District 54 makes every effort to keep our schools open and operational, circumstances beyond our control oftentimes dictate school closings.

Health Reminders
Cold and flu season is here! In order to help keep all of our Addams students and staff healthy, please follow these helpful guidelines:

If your child is vomiting, having diarrhea, or has a fever of 100 or higher, he/she should not come to school.  If a student is at school and these symptoms occur, you will receive a call from our school nurse to pick up your child from school. Students need to remain at home for at least 24 hours after they stop vomiting or having diarrhea and are fever-free without using any fever-reducing medicines.

Please remember to notify the office (847-357-5900) each day your child is absent.

Thank you for your cooperation.
