News from Addams 11/17/2017
Dear Addams Community:
As we gear up for the short week leading to the Thanksgiving holiday break, I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to the Addams “family”. I never take for granted the privilege of working in a community that is so supportive and collaborative in the educational process. It is a gift to work with such amazing students, staff and parents as we have here at Addams. I wish all an enjoyable and restful Thanksgiving with friends and family.
This past Wednesday, Ms. Phelan and I were honored to take part in the District 54 Partnership Breakfast. At the event, we gave thanks to some of our partners in education including the Culvers on Wise Rd., Old Town Pizza, WACO and the Schaumburg Police Department. Additionally, the Addams 8th grade orchestra did a fabulous job as the featured performers at the event.
Before we head out to places near and far, we have some exciting events planned for our students. On Monday, we look forward to holding our next Be Addams Assembly. The focus of the day and the assembly will be on how showing gratitude can lead to a happier life. As always, we will also honor many students and staff at the assembly.
Then on Tuesday, students will end the day with our world famous music bingo as a reward for all that we have accomplished this first trimester. Music bingo is always a huge hit as DJ Blingin’ Bingen and Funky Phelan will take to the Addams airwaves to play some sweet tunes.

Online Report Cards and Parent Portal Updates
District 54 launched an online report card at the end of last school year. Everyone who has a parent portal account will be able to see their children’s report cards online by November 21, 2017. All parents and guardians who have not previously created a portal account but have supplied District 54 with an email address should have received an email during the first week of October with a direct link to sign up for the portal. If you did not receive an email but would like to create a portal account, please contact our office. If you are unable to access the parent portal and require a paper copy of your student’s report card, please contact our office. For Parent Portal account information, please click here.
The next round of MAP testing begins Thursday, November 30, 2017. We are excited to see the growth that our students have made since the fall administration of the assessment. We will assess Reading through language arts classes on that Thursday and Friday, November 30-December 1. Math will be assessed on Monday and Tuesday, December 4 and 5. Please be sure to remind your child to get a good night’s sleep, eat a healthy breakfast, and put forth his/her best effort.
The Illinois State Board of Education’s 5Essentials Survey was scheduled to go live this week. Unfortunately, the Illinois State Board of Education sent an email announcing that the survey has been delayed. In case you were planning to take the survey this week, it is currently not working and the state has not set a new date. Our plan is to have students take the survey in December. That may also change, based on the state’s timeline. I will let you know when the survey is up and running, as we do value your feedback.
