coming to school.  We want all of our students to do their best and show how
much they have grown from Fall to Spring!

All students will take the Math MAP test during the following
two weeks and we will run makeups for any absent students when they return to
school.

Thanks for continuing to support your child and their
learning.

Dear Addams Community,

November is here and I can hardly believe it! It is always incredible to stop and take a moment to realize how fast time continues to march on. There are a few dates in November that I want to remind you about. The first trimester will be ending on
Thursday, November 10, and report cards will be sent home with each student on Tuesday, November 22rd. Please keep in mind that we have no school from Wednesday, November 23rd to Friday, November 25th.

District 54 has established a community closet for families that are in need of clothing. The community closet is housed in the lower level at Addams. There are many staff members from here at Addams and all over District 54 who have volunteered their time to sort clothing and get the com-munity closet set up. Additionally, we have had several Ad-dams PTA members help out also. How can you help? If you have any gently used clothing, feel free to bring them washed to school and we will get them ready to be shared with District 54 families in need. You could also contact the Addams PTA and check on volunteer opportunities. Thanks to all of you who have already supported the community closet by donating clothing.

Thanks for your continued support of our school and your child’s education

Sincerely,

Steve Pearce

Dear Addams Community,

It is hard to believe that October is here and the fall weather is upon us! It is not hard to believe that great things are happening at Jane Addams Junior High. Great things are happening because students, staff, and families are working together to help each child learn at high levels.

I hope that you had the opportunity to hear about some of these great things during your child’s student-led confer-ence on October 6th and 7th. It was great to see so many of you here at Addams supporting your child and their learning. We are excited to see all Addams students grow in many ways during their junior high experience and we are very focused on them learning in the areas of math and reading. We look forward to seeing improvement for all students when they take their MAP test in both the win-ter and the spring.

Jane Addams has several different clubs and activities happening simultaneously, and to be honest, it gets tough to keep track of. In order to assist with this, we have an After School Clubs and Activities link on our web-site. Clicking on the Addams Resources link on our home-page and then scrolling down to the After School Clubs and Activities link will get you to a listing of what is happen-ing after school each week. We are hoping that this allows all families and student to take part in as many activities as possible while attending Jane Addams.

Sincerely,

Steve Pearce

Report Cards, Pictures, and ISAT testing

Posted Wednesday, March 2nd, 2011 by Mr. Truppa

Report Cards come home with all students today.  They are being distributed by all 9th period teachers.  Please look for it!

The 8th grade graduation photo proofs will come home with your child tomorrow.  If you are interested in purchasing photos, please follow the directions included in the envelope with the proofs.  We are asking that all orders get returned by Friday, 3/11 to our main office.

All of our students will be taking the Math ISAT on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of next week.  Please make sure that your child has their calculator at school for these tests.  While we do have some extra calculators for students, we do not have enough for all students.  I will send another reminder via e-mail on Friday.

ISAT message from Mr. Pearce

Posted Friday, February 25th, 2011 by Mr. Truppa

Addams Community,

As most of you know, we will begin our ISAT testing next week.  Our schedule will look like this:

Tuesday, March 1          All students take Reading I

Wednesday, March 2     All students take Reading II

Thursday, March 3         All students take Reading III

Friday, March 4             Re-takes for any student who was absent on March 1-3

Monday, March 7           All students take Math I

Tuesday, March 8          All students take Math II

Wednesday, March 9     All students take Math III

Thursday, March 10       7th grade students take Science I and II

Friday, March 11            Re-takes for any student who was absent for previous tests

As you can see, all of our students will take important assessment tests each day over the course of the next two weeks.  Please help your student be as successful as possible by doing the following:

1.                   Make sure that your child is in attendance.  Our state requires the 95% of our students must take this assessment.

2.                   Please make sure that your child gets a good night’s sleep before each test.

3.                   Please make sure that your child eats a nutritious breakfast and drinks some liquids before school.

Our wonderful PTA will be providing a snack, a small bottle of water, and a mint to each student before each testing session.  We appreciate their support for our students!

Thanks in advance for supporting Jane Addams by doing your best to put your child in position to do be highly successful on the ISAT test.  As we say at Addams, “Dominate the ISAT!!!”

Have a great weekend!

ISAT Testing – Message from Mr. Pearce

Posted Wednesday, February 9th, 2011 by Mr. Truppa

The ISAT test will take place at Jane Addams during the first two weeks of March.  As most of you know, this is the primary assessment that the state of Illinois uses to assess the progress of your child and the effectiveness of our instruction.  In order to be compliant with the state, a minimum of 95% of our students must be tested.  This means that if your child is absent on any of those days, they will make-up the test upon their return.  We are asking that you do the following to ensure our students highest achievement and success:

  • Please make sure that your children get a reasonable amount of sleep in the days leading up to and during the ISAT test dates.
  • Please make sure that your children eat a nutritious breakfast and drink plenty of fluids before they come to school.  Brain research supports the fact that students do better when they have eaten and are fully hydrated.
  • Please do your best to make sure that your children attend school during the test days.  Although we do have students make up tests, they have a higher chance of doing better when they take it in their regular classroom environment.

Thanks for your support in helping ensure success for all students at Addams.

Please contact me at (847) 357-5900 if you have any questions.

Staffing for 2011-12 school year

Posted Friday, January 7th, 2011 by Mr. Truppa

Dear Addams community:   Though it is only mid-year, we are busy planning classes and staffing for the 2011-2012 school year.  We are currently working with Human Resources to make sure that our school is adequately staffed to meet the needs of our students for next year.  Once our staffing numbers are set, we are able to compile all of the student requests and work on our master schedule.  Schedules for next year will be available at our Information Day in August.  For parents of 8th grade students, please consult the Student Services Departments of your future high school if you have questions or concerns.
