Jane Addams is a seventh- and eighth-grade junior high school. The school is home to more than700 students and more than 100 staff members.
Students are assigned to an interdisciplinary team and are placed with a group of core teachers representing language arts, math, social studies, science and physical education. Students also have two class periods of encore classes to complete each nine-period day. The staff at Jane Addams functions as a Professional Learning Community with a focus on learning, collaboration, and results.
A full continuum of special services is available to students in District 54. Each of the junior high schools also has discovery classes for eligible gifted students.
Students at Jane Addams have opportunities to become involved in a variety of after-school activities, clubs and sports. Athletic teams include cross-country, basketball, girl’s volleyball, wrestling and track. These teams compete against other area schools. Intramural sports activities are also available. Students may also choose to join various clubs including: GEMS, Prairie Partners, Yearbook, Spectrum Newspaper and Student Council, among many others.
Addams was named after Jane Addams, a social worker who founded the Hull House in Chicago.
